Tempted (House of Night, Book 6)

Tempted - P.C. Cast, Kristin Cast I'm not a fan of this series, but yet I continue to read it... This book was better than the last and Zoey did have less boy issues, however, the dialogue ("I heart me some pancakes") and the constant life lessons (the truth will set you free...listen to your heart). I know this is a YA book, but so is Vampire Academy which I love, so I know if can be done well.
SPOILER ALERT!

The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 2)

The Laughing Corpse - Laurell K. Hamilton This book is MUCH more gruesome than the first. Anita is trying to find out who or what is killing/eating entire familes. She thinks that a very powerful voodoo pristess could be behind the creation of this monster/zombie- Dominga, but has no proof. She is also asked to raise a >300yo corpse for 1million dollars but refuses as this would require human sacrafice. John Claude is still after her to become his human servant and she continues to refuse. A fellow animator is killed- Peter Blake and she agrees to help his brother- John, because she suppects him as a possible suspect in creating the killer monster. When they are looking at Peter's things they find a voodoo item that was created by Dominga and it craws to her. She is taken in by the police but then released. Anita figues out that the monster is hiding in the neighboorhood and they stake out the area and wait until dark. The zombie/animator is found and starts running. He is very powerful and almost kills Anita, but she wounds him and the exterminators kill him. When she gets home she is kidnapped and taken back to the house and asked to raise the zombie for 1 million dollars. She refuses and Dominga appears to compell her to do it. A cripled woman, Wanda, tries to help Anita escape but the compulsion pulls her to Dominga. She bends the compulsion and kills 2 bodyguards instead of Wanda and then raises the zombies and they kill Dominga and Harold. John claude sees the entire thing but does not help.

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter: Book 1)

Guilty Pleasures - Laurell K. Hamilton This was not what I expected. Some comments I've heard about the series were focused on the sex. This book had little sex and little profanity. I suppose that the series may incorporate more of this as it goes on, but I felt this story was good and could stand alone well. It was nice to have some resolution at the end rather than feeling like I'm reading one big book that I have to wait months between chapters. Sometimes I felt like there was a lot repetition in her words, and there were a few points, especially in the dungeon where I had a hard time following/imagining where she was running or what was going on. That said, I enjoyed it and I will read the next one.
SPOILER ALERT!

Dead To The World (Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood, Book 4)

Dead to the World - Charlaine Harris After loosing some interest in this series I was happy to find I enjoyed this book. The previous book, club dead, had way too much violence against Sookie for my taste. There was something about it that disturbed me and I seriously considered dropping the series. After some encouragement from a friend I picked up Dead to the World. I was happy that this book finally acknowledged how much she was being hurt and then gave us ~300 pages with minimal injury. I liked the romance with Eric and felt sad for Sookie when he got his memory back, although it was expected. I am curious to see if a serious romance starts with Alcide now that Debbie is dead. I already have the next book on hold at the library.
SPOILER ALERT!

Great and Terrible Beauty

A Great and Terrible Beauty - Libba Bray I was not very impressed with this book. The relationship with the girls felt so fake and I was not surprised at all with their awful behavior. The author makes an attempt to point out the good in them at the end, but I do not find myself sympathizing at all. I will probably, silly as it sounds, read the next one- just because I am very stubborn about reading a series. I will not give it the time to read, but will listen to it instead.

Blood Promise (Vampire Academy, Book 4)

Blood Promise - Richelle Mead Loved this book. I Read it very fast because of all the action. I will be reading it again before the next one is released. Can't wait!
